New Moon in Aquarius Spotlights Canonization of Fr. Serra

Tracy Cook, another astrologer, noticed something really amazing. So amazing that I wanted to praise her insight and share it with my readers too.

Today, we were graced with a New Moon in Aquarius at 8:13 a.m. EST. Further, the exact degree was 0 Aquarius 08. New Moons set the tone for the month ahead and this one is really jiving positively for me because I’ve been more productive today than I’ve been in a month!

Last week, Pope Francis announced his intention to canonize Junipero Serra, a Franciscan missionary from California. Originally from Spain, he founded ten missions in California with the goal of bringing Catholicism to Native Americans. Beatified in 1988 by John Paul II, I’ve read that there is some disagreement among historians regarding how he treated the Native Americans, which is not surprising since he died in 1784. It simply wasn’t a happy era for the native tribes here, who used to have free reign. Yet, Fr. Serra was facilitating conversions, and as a convert myself, I can attest to the fact that a genuine conversion is a glorious, life changing event.

In astrology, each degree of the zodiac has a particular meaning, and this system is normally referred to as the Sabian symbols. I’ve seen a few versions of this method of reading meaning into each individual degree, but the listing that I am referring to today was compiled in 1925 by a clairvoyant named Elsie Wheeler. Sometimes, the meanings can be quite extraordinary.

Guess what the Sabian symbol is for our New Moon at 0-1 degree Aquarius?

I looked up a more elaborate explanation and found one from the famous astrologer, Dane Rudhyar. In fact, I think I first learned about Sabian symbols through a book my parents had by Rudhyar...a little black paperback with tiny print and sophisticated descriptions.

KEYNOTE: The power inherent in all great human works to endure far beyond the workers' life spans.

The works and spirit of the Spanish priests who directed the building of the California missions have had a lasting influence on the development of this land; these remain as a monument to the men who were able to make their mark upon this alien environment. While the zodiacal sign Capricorn begins with a symbol of socio-political power, Aquarius at its start presents a more spiritualized and idealistic or creative picture of the social forces at work. Moreover, it stresses the enduring character of human achievements ensouled by a great vision. At least within the frame of reference of our Western civilization, the symbol speaks of the projection of a noble ideal into concrete forms of beauty and significance, thus of the radiation of a "civilizing" power into an institution offering to primitive men the opportunity to reach a higher, more organized and productive, level of activity.

This is the first stage in the sixty-first five-fold sequence. It speaks to us of THE CONCRETIZATION OF AN IDEAL. This also implies the "immortalization" of an individual within a great collective and cultural enterprise.

The heavens are a reflection of the divine mind and will, and this canonization is on the Lord’s mind. And, perhaps Pope Francis, who also has Moon in Aquarius in his own birth chart, is feeling ultra sensitive to this New Moon.
